Anglican Report with Bp Minns
AnglicanTV is experimenting with new technology to deliver you a higher quality multimedia experience. We are also developing a new social networking site to further encourage the ministry of the Anglican Communion. To view the above video you will have to install a DIVX plugin for your browser, but it is well worth it. If you have an older windows98 system you may have to install a few windows updates as well. Let me know if you have any problems and I will help you out.
YOU MAY HAVE TO RESTART YOUR BROWSER OR COMPUTER AFTER YOU INSTALL THE PLUGIN.

Maybe I'll get to see you when you come to Ft. Worth. By the way, Georgette Forney (of Anglicans for Life) will be in town the week before the Ft. Worth diocesan convention. She might be an interesting person to interview at some date especially with the petition her organization is circulating online, at conventions, and at the parish and personal level. (See http://www.anglicansforlife.org/petition2/index.as... ) If there is a Lambeth, we hope to get the message that petition bears across to the powers-that-be.
OT, but I didn't see a date on the interview. Always helpful info.
I could not get DIVX to work at all on my iMac with either Firefox or Safari.
Kevin
Mac OS X (10.3.9) running on an old PowerPC 750 (2.2). It does not seem to get past "Transferring data from video google.com." The earlier Anglican Reports run fine in Firefox and Safari Mac OS, as well as Safari under winXP.
Interestingly, under Linux (Feisty with Firefox), the Bp Minns vdieo ran extremely well, even though no plugin or package was downloaded or installed
in my vocabulary. Please understand...I'm not trying to
be difficult...just need a little help, I guess. Would love
to hear Bp. Minns. He is a favorite of this old grandma!
Thanks.
We have the same system. Do you have FF 2.0.0.7?
Kevin
1. The video is obviously much better (so what else would be expected from DivX?)
2. The audio is a little crisper, but the attenuation is still too much. While my desktops have no problem, my laptop has trouble producing volume loud enough to hear in some places. This is especially true if there's any background noise where my laptop is located. A headset remains the only way I can hear the entire dialog on my laptop (and is generally true of most of the videos you’ve produced). If you'd make the dialog as loud as your intro music that would be a big plus.
3. The higher density of DivX is obviously demanding on bandwidth. The frame size you posted on your web site results in 3 stops to fill my video buffer (the Google format, obviously because it is smaller, doesn't have this pause). However, this is also dependent on the NIC card in a particular computer. On my 108mb wireless-g card, the pauses occur. On my 4mb cards there isn't any pause. Perhaps scaling the density (and therefore a smaller frame size) to say, 80% of what you used here would eliminate pauses for computers using a 100mb throughput?
Just as an aesthetic observation on this particular video, the contrast was too high. Far too much very-dark vs. very-light. Turning up brightness to see the darks in the lower screen resulted in wash out in the upper screen. Don't know if that's something you can control or even want to, but I though I'd mention it.
As to the content, most excellent. Always eager to listen to +Minns and thanks for taking the opportunity to interview him.
Guess that “I’m taking October off” thing didn’t pan out like you though, huh? :)
I can certainly work on all the things you suggested. I have Final Cut Pro that will do most of your suggestions automatically. The only constraints I have is time -- how long are you waiting from interview to live.
Thanks
Kevin
WinXP Sp2, FF 2.0.0.8, Latest Divx Plugin, on a Dell workstation -- success
IMAC 24" (intel), MAC OS 10.4.10, FF 2.0.0.8, Latest Divx Plugin, -- success
macbook (intel), MAC OS 10.4.10, FF 2.0.0.8, Latest Divx Plugin, -- success
It is working extremely well in the full screen mode 1600x1200 (20" Samsung) with both the sound and video quality being excellent. I hope you continue to use DIVX in the future.
Too bad TEC and ACC bugs can't be fixed as easily.
Thanks for your kinds help and patience.
I'm on a portable with windows xp, using a Verizon card to access the web. Reception not all that snazzy where I am right now, but with Google the download sometimes even keeps up with the playing speed. I can look forward mostly to being bandwidth-challenged (this is the only computer I have), so if this is the only player you use I will be missing stuff.
Anselmic, I think if you activate the player (first click) but do not press the play button (second click) I believe it will buffer the entire file for playback later--however, you will lose it if you close the Anglican TV window. You know what they say, "Don't touch that dial!"
